Description: This course is open to graduate students enrolled in a terminal degree program (e.g. Ph.D., DA, ED, MFA).
Students will develop a working knowledge of the scholarship of teaching and learning and will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to design and teach a course that effectively facilitates student learning. During the course, students will work through the Backward Design approach to designing courses and develop a new course that they should be ready to teach upon graduation. Topics will include encouraging critical thinking in students, the effective use of writing, determining how and when to use classroom activities, and classroom management.
This is a 0-1 credit course that students must register for (those who register for 0 credits will not have to pay tuition). Students will be expected to attend seven of the eight meetings.

- Have taken a course on teaching (either Seminar in College Teaching or one in their department),
- Have taught as the instructor of record for at least two semesters, and/or
- Will be graduating in the next year (by August 2018)
