I am Isa's mom.
I am an artist. I know a little about online teaching and learning. Hi everyone! This is my 14th year in the program. I started in 2004 when my daughter was 4 years old! She is now 16 and a senior at Emma Willard in Troy! I take one course per semester and have taken a couple of leaves due to my work/travel schedule. I lead online teaching at Open SUNY for the SUNY system. I am interested in improving our understanding of how people can teach and learn well online. And, I have been a pioneer and innovator in large-scale online faculty development and online course design for more than 20 years. I taught ETAP 640 for many years and love teaching online. When done well, it can be an extraordinary experience for both faculty and learners. Education is one way to interrupt the trans-generational transmission of poverty. Online education is one way to democratize access to education. With that peanut butter and chocolate we can change the world and improve the lives and prospects of millions of children in this country and beyond. My professional efforts lie in the following areas: online faculty development, large-scale, online course design and quality (OSCQR rubric), online instructional design, learner-centered online instruction, online discussion/interaction, effective practices in online teaching and learning, open pedagogy, online teaching and learning, pedagogical uses of instructional technology, social and teaching presences, badging, blended learning, building and sustaining a community of online practitioners, identity and the online representation of self, online learner self-regulation/self-efficacy, developing and professionalizing the role of online instructional designers, leveraging web technologies for instructional purposes, ensuring institutional online program quality using the OLC quality scorecard as an online institutional readiness self-assessment. I have co-authored a number of studies on these topics and consult and present regularly nationally and internationally in both English and Spanish. Fun fact: I love to take pictures of mushrooms. |
